SATA or Serial ATA or Serial AT Attachment, is a computer bus used to attach storage devices such as Hard-Disk Drives, Solid-State Drives and Optical Drives. It is the successor the older PATA or Parallel ATA protocol. It uses 7 conductors for data transfer (instead of 40 or 80 for PATA) and allows faster data transfers, hot-swapping and command queuing.
